Aphelandra squarrosa 'Zebra'
Botanical name - Aphelandra squarrosa
Common name - Zebra plant
Plant info - The Zebra plant or Aphelandra, is native to the humid jungles of Brazil and features beautiful, glossy, dark green leaves with prominent white veins, giving it a Zebra-like stripey appearance. With enough light and fertiliser, it will flower with multiple yellow blossoms that will add to its appeal.
Plant care - Your Zebra plant will thrive in a warm spot with moderate to bright indirect light. While it can tolerate a bit of shade, it won’t flower as often or as long if it’s not given enough light but be sure to avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. This plant is sensitive to over-watering or under-watering so water when soil is half dry, preferably with rain or filtered water. It needs small amounts of water often, as opposed to a thorough watering once in a while. Fertilise your plant with a good quality liquid fertiliser every 1-2 weeks through Spring and Summer then not at all through the cooler months.
Growing in a 105 mm pot. Beautiful dark leaves with white stripes are what makes this Aphelandra known as a Zebra Plant.
