Botanical name - Calathea orbifolia
Common name - Calathea orbifolia
Plant info - Native to Brazil and South America, prayer plants are shade loving and related to Ctenanthe, Maranta and Stromanthe. They are commonly called 'Prayer Plants' because their leaves lie flat by day, but fold upwards in the evenings. Grown for their lush, colourful foliage, they are perfectly suited to tropical gardens and make a great house plant. Calathea orbifolia has broad bright green leaves, delicately striped with metallic silvery-blue striped patterning. It is an elegant and understated plant that is prized for its round leaves which grow quite wide as the plant matures.
Plant care - Calatheas in general are quite hardy and low maintenance. They like a warm position with bright, indirect light, definitely not for low light areas. Use well draining soil and water when almost dry. Feed once a month with a good quality liquid fertiliser in warmer months only.
Growing in a 100 mm pot. One of the prettiest Calatheas!
