Botanical name - Maranta leuconeura var. erythroneura
Common name - Red stripe prayer plant/ Red Maranta
Plant info - Native to Brazil and South America, prayer plants are shade loving and related to Calathea, Ctenanthe and Stromanthe. They are commonly called 'Prayer Plants' because their leaves lie flat by day, but fold upwards in the evenings. Grown for their lush, colourful foliage, they are perfectly suited to tropical gardens and make a great house plant. This red stripe prayer plant is a low growing, spreading plant with striking patterns, lines, blotches and shading on the leaves.
Plant care - Quite hardy and low maintenance, they like a warm position with bright, indirect light, definitely not for low light areas. Use well draining soil and Water when almost dry. Feed once a month with a good quality liquid fertiliser in warmer months only.
Growing in a 100 mm pot and already displaying mature colouring on leaves!
